Chef Carlos Altamirano is a celebrated Peruvian chef and restaurateur renowned for his vibrant contributions to Latin American cuisine in the San Francisco Bay Area. Born and raised in southern Peru, he grew up with a deep appreciation for his cultural heritage,
which remains the heart of his culinary style.
After relocating to the Bay Area in 1994, Chef Altamirano honed his craft under the mentorship of esteemed chefs like Reed Hearon, Bob Helstrom, David and Anne Gingrass, and Bradley Ogden. These experiences enriched his culinary expertise,
shaping his vision for creating his own restaurant empire.
Chef Altamirano owns several highly acclaimed restaurants, including La Costanera (Michelin-starred in 2012 & 2013), Mochica, Piqueos, Parada, Paradita, Barranco, Sanguchon, and his most recent concept, Altamirano which opened in September 2024. Each establishment showcases his dedication to authentic Peruvian flavors, paired with innovative techniques and fresh, locally sourced ingredients. By blending traditional Peruvian cuisine with modern culinary influences, he elevates classic dishes to appeal to contemporary tastes, offering unforgettable dining experiences.
